Meet Prof Abdon Atangana, the World’s Second Best Mathematician

Prof Abdon Atangana has been named the world’s second-best Mathematician.

The 37-year-old Cameroonian who has lived in South Africa for 12 years, also emerged 188th in Science, Technology, Engineering in the Stanford University’s top 2 per cent scientists in the world.

Prof Abdon is a Professor Applied Mathematics in the Institute of Groundwater Studies at the University of Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa and says, “I am the author of various crucial mathematical ideas that are applied and pure mathematics. For instance, I created the Atangana Baleanu fractional derivatives and integrals, which constitute a novel calculus and are based on the general Mittag-Leffler kernels. Since its inception in 2016, this fractional calculus has been employed in various fields of science, technology, and engineering.”

With this recognition, Prof Abdon has become a role model and source of inspiration to many researcher s from developing nations especially in the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

He also serves as the Editor of some international journals and also Reviewer of more than 20 International accredited journals.
