Meet Akorfa Ama Akoto

Akorfa is an education and social protection professional and innovator from Ghana who believes that when education and mentorship are prioritised, the world will nurture more self-assured children.
Akorfa has a Master’s Degree in Social Policy Studies and a BA in Sociology and Chinese, both from the University of Ghana, Legon. She studied at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology for a one-year Chinese Language Immersion program. She has a certificate in NGO Project and Operations Management from Cambridge Center of Excellence and a certificate in Effective Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness from Dubai.
Akorfa is currently the Technical Advisor/Research Assistant to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service. Before this role, she worked as a Communications Assistant at Ghana’s Education Ministry, the Ministry responsible for all policies on education, including apprenticeships and wider skills acquisition in Ghana.
She has worked as an Educational Content Creator with Perbi Cubs Library Services, a virtual learning site that makes reading fun for children. Akorfa speaks and writes Mandarin Chinese and has worked as a teacher and Mandarin Translator with schools and international companies.

In 2019, Akorfa’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to found the Spring-UP Global Network (SUGN), an innovative not-for-profit organisation that not only provides school supplies but also organises mentorship seminars in public pre-tertiary schools. In 2020, the SUGN team spearheaded the iRead iLead Educational campaign, a visionary 10-year strategic education campaign designed to nurture children’s reading and writing skills (www.springupglobalnetwork.org). With the financial support of dedicated volunteers and social media followers, SUGN was able to refurbish two (2) libraries between 2020 and early 2022, demonstrating the power of collective action in achieving educational goals.
In September 2022, Deloitte recognised the transformative potential of SUGN and named it a partner in its WorldClass Initiative. This partnership, valued at $55,000.00, has already yielded impressive results. In just twenty (20) months, both organisations have collaborated to refurbish and restock eight (8) school libraries, providing 9,400 books and impacting the lives of 23,319 children across five (5) regions in Ghana. This achievement is a beacon of hope, demonstrating the power of strategic partnerships in driving social change.
She believes storytelling and writing are powerful tools for solving societal issues. Her writings are inspired by her everyday experiences, and she is dedicated to amplifying the news, culture, and lifestyle of people and places in Africa. Hence, www.akorfaakoto.com is dedicated to amplifying African stories.
