Hi, I'm Akorfa Ama Akoto, A writer and A Blogger. |
Meet Akorfa Ama Akoto
Akorfa is an education and social protection professional from Ghana who believes the world will nurture more self-assured children when the education and mentorship of children are prioritised.
Akorfa has a Master’s Degree in Social Policy Studies and a BA in Sociology and Chinese, both from the University of Ghana, Legon. She studied at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology for a one-year Chinese Language Immersion program. She has a certificate in NGO Project & Operations Management from Cambridge Center of Excellence and a certificate in Effective Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness from Dubai.
Akorfa is currently the Technical Advisor/Research Assistant to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service. Before this role, she worked as a Communications Assistant at Ghana’s Education Ministry, the Ministry responsible for all policies on education, including apprenticeships and wider skills acquisition in Ghana.
She has worked as an Educational Content Creator with Perbi Cubs Library Services, a virtual learning site that makes reading fun for children. Akorfa speaks and writes Mandarin Chinese and has worked as a teacher and Mandarin Translator with schools and international companies.
In 2019, she founded Spring-UP Global Network (SUGN), a registered not-for-profit in Ghana working to bridge the literacy gap between children in rural and urban Ghana. In 2020, the SUGN team pioneered the iRead iLead Educational campaign, a 10-year strategic education campaign to nurture children’s reading and writing skills and encourage pre-tertiary learners to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers through activity-based STEM programs (www.sugn.org).
In September 2022, Deloitte named SUGN a partner to realise its WorldClass Initiative worth $55,000.00 in Ghana. This partnership has seen both organisations refurbish and restock eight (8) school libraries, making secure and conducive school libraries accessible to over 35,000 children in Ghana. This brings the total number of libraries provided by the NGO to ten (10).
She believes storytelling and writing are powerful tools for solving societal issues. Her writings are inspired by her everyday experiences and she is dedicated to amplifying news, culture and lifestyle of people and places in Africa, hence the dedication of www.akorfaakoto.com to amplifying African stories.
