Ghana’s Yorm Ama Abledu wins 2022 IBA award

Ghana’s Yorm Ama Abledu Esq is winner of the 2022 International Bar Association (IBA) Outstanding Young Lawyer award.

This makes her the first Ghanaian female to win the prestigious International Bar Association award.

The IBA is one of the world’s leading organisations of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies.

According to the IBA President Sternford Moyo, the 2022 IBA Outstanding Young Lawyer who doubles as a Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra and Senior International Attorney was honoured for “her selfless volunteer work and for her dedication to empower African students to academic success.”

Delivering her speech at the annual conference of the IBA award, the Senior International Attorney said: ‘‘It’s a privilege to be honoured as the year’s award winner for the IBA Outstanding Young Lawyer. History has been made, as I am the second African and importantly, the first Ghanaian female lawyer to win this prestigious award.’’

She holds a master’s degree in Oil and Gas with Professional Skills from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland in 2014, a Harvard University Certificate in Negotiation and a certificate in Human Rights and Oil and Gas Law from Fordham University. Ms Abledu is an alumna of St Mary’s Secondary School in Accra.
